Finding the Correct Support To determine the right strength of lift support for your application, we recommend weighing the lid or hatch using a 2x4 board or other vertical support to hold it open. Place the board halfway between the hinge and the front edge, where the support will attach to the lid, and then place a scale on the ground under the board. Multiply the weight shown on the scale by 1.5 to estimate the force support you'll need.
